Ladysmith Council waiting for community to weigh in before setting its pay

Over the past few years, councillors in Ladysmith have tried to avoid the tricky issue of voting on their own pay by doing it at the end of the term, just before elections.

But they missed the deadline in 2014, so it’s landed in front of the new mayor and Council.

Mayor Aaron Stone says they decided this week to make the decision the same way as before, by getting a committee of community members to offer advice.

The bylaw adopted before the 2011 election set the current pay at 24-thousand 172 dollars for the mayor and 12-thousand 470 for councillors.
