Annapolis case goes before judge on Thursday

A court fight over the Artificial Reef Society of BC‘s latest project goes before a judge February 25th.

The people behind the challenge, meanwhile, say they proposed a solution, but got turned down.

The ARSBC wants to sink the former HMCS Annapolis off Gambier Island in Howe Sound.

The group Save Halkett Bay has been fighting it for years. They say they’re worried about contamination on the hull paint.

Gary MacDonald speaks for the group.  He says they’ve learned there’s a way to clean the paint while the ship is at anchor, and they asked the ARSBC and the Ministry of Environment to look into it.

The ARSBC already has several artificial reefs in area, including two near Nanaimo and one in Sechelt Inlet.
