They’re celebrating the opening of two new operating rooms at Nanaimo Regional General.
It’s the final step in a project that started about 10 years ago with the construction of a new surgical suite, but two of the ORs were left with the intention of finishing them later.
Suzie Vinden, Operating Room Manager at NRGH, says the extra ORs will improve their ability to handle emergencies.
Dr. Georgia Hirst is head of the Anesthesiology Department.
The Nanaimo District Hospital Foundation is raising $1.5 million dollars to help equip the ORs and they say they’re about halfway towards meeting that goal. The target is to have all the money raised by June.
