Man threatens to jump off bridge in Nanaimo

A man threatening to jump off a bridge in Nanaimo was coaxed to safety by the RCMP. It happened on the Pearson Bridge around 10:45pm on Thursday evening.

Sergeant Sheryl Armstrong says a passerby stopped to talk to the man and someone called 9-1-1.

Armstrong says the officer started to talk to the man, and the man asked to speak with an RCMP officer he knew.

Armstrong says the man was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. During the incident, BC Ambulance was standing by and Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews launched a boat in case the man jumped from the bridge into the water.
