Lunney says Canada's good pipeline safety record should be as much attention as the risk

Nanaimo Alberni MP James Lunney says people are getting a distorted picture of pipeline safety.

Lunney, a Conservative, made the comments during a debate Monday in the Commons on Bill C-46, the government’s Pipeline Safety Act.

The bill would amend the laws around the National Energy Board and something called the Canada Oil and Gas Operations Act.

There are more than 73-thousand kilometers of federally regulated pipelines in Canada.
