Crowder says a report on missing & murdered Indigenous women is a call to action

The NDP’s Aboriginal Affairs Critic says a report on murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls in BC is yet another reminder of the need for a national inquiry.

An Inter-American Commission on Human Rights report says Canada must prevent the violence by dealing with poverty, access to housing and employment, and disproportionate criminalization.

Nanaimo Cowichan MP Jean Crowder, the NDP’s Aboriginal Affairs Critic, says the report shows it’s time for the Harper Government to deal with the underlying causes.

Crowder says the federal government and police must work with the families of the missing and murdered women and girls, as well as First Nations organizations.

Crowder adds that a national inquiry won’t happen if the Harper Government chooses to disregard the report, like it has others in the past.
