Save Halkett Bay looking to stop Annapolis being moved ahead of planned sinking

A group trying to stop the sinking of a former Canadian warship off Gambier Island expects to find out Monday when the Federal Court will hear its request for an injunction.

In the meantime, Save Halkett Bay wants the courts to stop the Artificial Reef Society from moving the ship into position on January 13th.

The group says the Annapolis shouldn’t be sunk Saturday as planned, because it hasn’t been property inspected for contaminants. The group also claims to have found potentially toxic paint on the ship’s hull.

The ARSBC, however, says the ship has been well prepared and will be the cleanest reef they’ve ever sunk.
