Sunshine Coast RCMP reminding drivers to lock-up and remove valuables

Sunshine Coast RCMP are the latest detachment to warn people about thieves targeting the items left behind in their cars.

Constable Harrison Mohr says Saturday night in West Sechelt, several vehicles were targeted by a thief or thieves. In the end, not a lot was taken but people’s belongings were scattered on the road and it was pretty disturbing for the victims.

Mohr also says the targeted vehicles had one thing in common; they were left unlocked.  Even though it’s a simple, and effective, deterrent Mohr says a lot of people are reluctant to lock-up.

Mohr says these are often crimes of opportunity, and they often increase over the holidays. And as well as locking-up people need to get into the habit of not leaving valuables in their cars.  It also helps RCMP if people take time to report anybody acting suspiciously around parked vehicles.
