Get ready for a musical experience like no other as Nico Rhodes’ Hullabaloo hits the stage at The Port Theatre on Friday, June 20 at 7:00 PM. This high-energy, genre-jumping extravaganza features a 100-member community chorus, a powerhouse band, and some of Vancouver Island’s most electrifying vocal and instrumental talent.
More than a concert, Hullabaloo is a soul-shaking celebration of community, joy, and musical connection. Audiences will hear bold, fresh arrangements of songs they know and love—spanning Gospel, Rock, Folk, Pop, Motown, and Musical Theatre—performed with heart, humour, and high-octane energy.
Led by acclaimed Artistic Director Nico Rhodes, the show features soloists Jona Kristinsson, BUWA, Joshua Holloway, Tai Williams, cellist Alexandra Lee, and mandolin/guitarist Brad Shipley. At the centre is the Hullabaloo Chorus, a vibrant and diverse collective of singers from Nanaimo, Qualicum Beach, Parksville, Port Alberni, Ladysmith, and Duncan—voices raised together in harmony and celebration.
Rhodes, a celebrated composer, arranger, and performer, is known for his genre-defying style and deep commitment to community music-making. With over 400 original compositions, 44 stage musicals, and multiple awards and nominations—including the City of Nanaimo’s Emerging Cultural Leader Award—his creative leadership brings Hullabaloo to exhilarating life.
Whether you’re a music lover, a joy-seeker, or someone who simply believes in the magic of voices united, this show promises an unforgettable night. Come be part of the noise. Come to Hullabaloo.
