RDN offers over $240,000 in stewardship rebates

Residents within the Regional District of Nanaimo will be able to apply for a piece of $243,000 in rebates to help support environmental stewardship.

The money will go towards water stewardship and green building with individual rebates ranging from $100 to $1,500 depending on the program.

The RDN says applications will be based on an eligibility criterion that varies for each program, including where the resident lives within the district. They add people should review the criteria, and rebate information, to make sure they meet all the requirements.

Rebates are granted on a first-come, first-served basis until all the $243,000 is spent, which is why the RDN says they encourage residents to apply early since funding is limited.

Water Stewardship rebates are available for all RDN residents and focus on irrigation upgrades, rainwater harvesting, septic system upgrades, wellhead upgrades, as well as well-water testing.

The Green Building rebates are open to RDN residents unless you live in the City of Nanaimo, and focus on sustainable development, home-energy assessments, graded site-cut timber use, fossil fuel to heat pump replacement, renewable energy systems and residential electric vehicle charging stations.

For more information, and rebate amounts visit the RDN’s website.
