No one planned on spending the day aboard the Queen of Surrey this morning but that’s what 200 passengers had to do.
Ferry service between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale is suspended due to a docking incident at Langdale terminal.
No injuries to passengers or crew were reported when the fender of the vessel got hung up on a pontoon while the vessel was berthing.
The Coast Guard is reportedly standing by in case they’ll need to help remove passengers from the ship.
BC Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall says they are not sure why it happened.
“We don’t know at this point, we will have to do a full investigation.”
The Queen of Surrey is out of commission for the day while tug boats try to move it around so it could line up with the ramp and the cars could get off but at this point, that’s not happening.
Passengers had been on board since before 8 in the morning when they got on at Horseshoe Bay.
Marshall says a contracted water taxi service was brought in for the day and the Queen of Cowichan will be making some runs from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale and back tonight.
“We do expect there will be pent up demand for that evening service.”
It is scheduled to leave Horseshoe Bay at 5:30 and 7:50 Horseshoe Bay and will leave Langdale at 6:40 and 8:55.
