The Nanaimo Ladysmith Public School District is celebrating today (Thurs).
The District will be holding a Grand Opening Celebration for the recently completed one point five million dollar gym expansion at Ecole Hammond Bay elementary school.
The provincial Minister of Education will be In attendance.
Prior to this expansion, the school gym could only accommodate 312, now it has a capacity of 509.
The undersized gym was not able to accommodate the entire student and staff population for school assemblies or emergencies and due to its size, could not host regulation-sized basketball and volleyball games.
