If a crime is not in progress and there is no threat to the safety of the public people should call the non-emergency line of their local RCMP detachment.
Nanaimo Constable Gary O’Brien says with school out, and the warmer weather, call volumes are beginning to increase for the summer.
O’Brien says the increasing volume of calls mean police have to prioritize them more than ever.
Over a 24 hour period last Tuesday the detachment dealt with 126 calls for service.
They included 8 abandoned 9-1-1 calls, 17 traffic calls, 14 for theft, 7 suspicious vehicles or persons, 6 for mischief, 3 possible impaired drivers and 3 threats.
