We’ve all heard the statistics from overdoses as a result of illicit drug use but we don’t often hear of the options available for treatment for those who want to quit using.
On the Sunshine Coast, Susann Richter, manager for mental health with Vancouver Coastal Health says there are a number of different avenues available when someone makes the decision to quit using illicit drugs….
Richter says people can also go to their GP for help, the Community Mental Health and Addiction Team offers counselling services, there is a detox in-patient unit for those with serious substance abuse issues and VCH has recently opened a 4 bed transition house for those waiting to get into treatment.
The programs cater to people from all walks of life with many of them being employed.
