Gibsons resident loses home to ‘suspicious’ fire

One Gibsons resident is without a home after an early Monday morning fire on Hough Road.

George Willams, Captain of the Gibsons & District Fire Department says their pagers alerted them of a structure fire at 2:58 in the morning and when they arrived, the two-storey house was fully involved.

During the peak time of the fire, as many as 19 firefighters were on the scene.

The house fire is still under investigation but it does appear the house is at a total loss.

Williams says the fire department spoke to the single occupant who was living in the house and they have put them in touch with Victim Services.

Sunshine Coast RCMP is also investigating the case and was called after a piece of evidence which indicated that the fire may have been intentionally set.

Police say they are in their early stages of the investigation and want to hear from anyone that might have seen or heard anything in that area.
