A Nanaimo man has been sentenced to four months behind bars for trying to rob a jewelry store.
30-year-old Craig Edward Truckle was arrested on Monday after he smashed a display case at Paris Jewellers in Woodgrove Centre and tried to make off with with thousands of dollars worth of gold chains.
He was nabbed by some quick-thinking civilians before he could get away, and he pleaded guilty in Nanaimo Provincial Court to Theft over $5000.
Nanaimo RCMP Constable Gary O’Brien says they’re hoping to officially recognize the civilians who helped catch Truckle.
O’Brien says a committee will look at the actions of the civilians and decide on an appropriate way to acknowledge what they did.
