Nanaimo Council considering installing video camera at lower Collier Dam

The idea of installing a video camera at the Lower Colliery Dam to live-stream construction of the auxiliary spillway got support from Nanaimo City Council on Monday night.

The motion was Councillor Bill Bestwick’s idea. He says it would be a great way to keep tabs on the project and keep the public in the loop.

Councillor Gord Fuller says streaming video 24/7 via the city’s website can’t be that hard.

Councillor Jerry Hong liked the idea, and said he hopes the camera can eventually be used to live-stream other events.

Councillor Jim Kipp was the only one who voted against the motion, saying he can’t support spending any more money on the dam project.

Staff will be preparing a report on what it’ll take to install a video camera at the dam.
