Community activists trying to raise money to buy the Gospel Rock properties in Gibsons are hoping to convince Council to leave money in its Park Acquisition Fund to help with that dream.

For the Love of Gospel Rock estimates it could take as much as 4-million dollars to buy the land, which is currently in private hands but remains undeveloped.

They’re building a fundraising plan around the idea of getting people to donate $100 for a square metre of Gospel Rock (which they’re committed to returning if the project falls through).

President Sharon Danroth says there’s still a lot of interest in the fate of Gospel Rock, which was at the center of a years-long debate over an official community plan.

The group is planning to send a delegation to speak at a committee meeting this week, where Councillors will discuss the idea of freeing up the Park Acquisition Fund for other uses.
