The commander of the Sunshine Coast RCMP says they’re changing their shifts – or watches – to make sure more officers are on the road at the times they usually get the most calls.
Staff Sergeant Vishal Mathura outlined the plan for Town Councillors in Gibsons this week. He says right now the detachment has officers working on 4 watches. But starting in December, they’ll go to 5.
Mathura says the busiest time for RCMP is usually between about 5 and 8 in the evening.
He also says because the number of calls generally drops in the fall and winter, it’s an ideal time to test out the new arrangement.
