Nanaimo RCMP say customers at the Brooks Landing Tim Horton’s thought a bomb had gone off the parking lot, when a car driven by an 84 year old man smashed into the building and flipped over.
It happened just after 8:30 Thursday morning.
RCMP say the man’s car went over the curb at the entrance to the Brooks Landing, it then carried on through the parking lot, hitting the side of a parked pick-up so hard it ripped off the rear axle. Then it slammed into the wall of Tim Horton’s, flipped over and landed upside down.
The man was taken to Nanaimo Regional General with a head injury. A dog in the car with him got loose, but witnesses managed to corral it and turn it over to Animal Control officers to look after.
“It is only early in the investigation but it is possible a medical situation was at play causing the driver to accelerate and lose control of his vehicle”, says Constable Gary O’Brien.
