Island Health says shorter hours at Oceanside Health Centre could help attract docs and nurses

The Oceanside Health Centre’s Urgent Care service will be closing an hour earlier starting August 1st.

Medical Lead, Dr. Ben Williams, says they’ll be open from 7:30am until 9:30pm, instead of 10:30pm.

He says that’s going to work well for most patients, because they usually arrive between 8am and 4pm.  Williams also says it will let them boost staffing during those peak hours.

Williams says the change will also mean employees won’t have to work late.  He says that will will hopefully make it easier to attract more physicians to work those evening shifts, because it can still fit in with their other work at area ERs or in family practices.
