Sunshine Coast RCMP investigating theft of firearms from hunting store

Sunshine Coast RCMP say a recent break-in at a hunting shop in Gibsons has them concerned about a “real danger to public and police safety”.

The break-in happened on the 16th, but police are just now releasing details.

They say Buck Fever on North Road seems to have been specifically targeted by thieves looking for firearms, and they got away with several – both hand guns and long guns.

They also did a lot of damage to the store.

Sunshine Coast RCMP say they’re looking at security camera footage, and hoping for tips from the public.

“The fact that firearms were targeted and stolen is very concerning,” says Cst Harrison Mohr. “When firearms are stolen, it is often for the purpose of using them to commit another crime, rather than for the monetary value of the guns.”
They’re asking anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area around 4am on May 16th, or have information to share, to contact the detachment (604-885-2266) or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
