ELF calls for moratorium on Wilson Creek harvesting

The conservation group Elphinstone Logging Focus says it wants a moratorium on logging in the Wilson Creek Watershed, along with a new study on the impact on the water supply, and permanent water quality monitoring.

ELF says a recent report by the BC Tap Water Alliance claims the area isn’t recovering as quickly as some thought.

Some of the logging in the area is done by the Community Forest, which is managed by the District of Sechelt, and Ross Muirhead of ELF wants Sechelt Council to require monitoring.

Sechelt Mayor Bruce Milne says Council is trying to balance logging activity and community values.

Sechelt Community Projects pays dividends to the District which have been used for a series of initiatives through a special Legacy Fund.
