The people who run Nanaimo’s winter shelter for the homeless are hoping to get more support from the City.
Reverend Samaya Oakley of First Unitarian Church was in front of Council’s committee of the whole Monday to request 60-thousand dollars a year in funding.
Council isn’t making a decision right away.
At the beginning of this month the shelter looked like it might have to close for the season early, but a combination of community support and a return of sub-zero overnight temperatures that triggered provincial funding have ensured that won’t happen
