It doesn’t look like Gibsons Council will change how it does day-to-day business anytime soon, but they did get a look this week at potential revisions to the Procedures Bylaw.
Most of them wouldn’t be noticeable to the public, but changes in a couple of areas definitely could be; delegations and the question-and-answer periods.
Mayor Wayne Rowe is open about his view that last year’s controversies over the George Hotel proposal exposed a flaw. He says delegations shouldn’t be about arguments for or against development projects.
One of the changes on the table is to reject any delegation requests on items where there’s going to be a public hearing.
Right now people can ask questions at three points during the meetings. One change on the table is going to a single Q&A session at the end.
That’s something Councillor Charlene SanJenko supports.
The changes are still at the early stages, and it will likely be some time before Council makes any final decisions.
