The group Save Halkett Bay is headed to court in an effort to stop the sinking of a retired warship off Gambier Island.
The Artificial Reef Society announced this week it will sink the Annapolis on January 17th.
But Save Halkett Bay is asking for an injunction because paint samples they took have tested positive for tributyltin, a chemical once used to prevent marine growth on boat hulls.
The group’s Gary MacDonald told Coast FM News earlier that they’ve been concerned about the TBTs for some time.
The ARSBC, though, says Annapolis will be the “cleanest” reef they’ve ever sunk, and it’s as contaminant free as possible.
So far, the Federal Court hasn’t set a time to hear the injunction request.
