Disappointing news for people hoping to usher in the New Year with a polar bear swim in Ladysmith.
The event has been cancelled, because the Town can’t get water quality testing done in time.
The severe storms earlier this month caused an overflow at Ladysmith’s sewage treatment plant, sending untreated waste water into the harbour.
But there are lots of other options, including 3 swims on the Sunshine Coast.
The biggest will be the Lions Polar Bear Swim at Davis Bay – registration starts at 11am. There’s also one at Armours Beach in Gibsons, and one at Seafarer’s Park in Pender Harbour.
The Regional District of Nanaimo is hosting a Polar Bear Splash at Parksville Community Beach. Registration begins at 11:30am.
Nanaimo held its Polar Bear swim on Boxing Day. About 175 people plunged into Departure Bay, in slightly warmer weather than Environment Canada is predicting for January 1st.
