Boil water advisory in Eastbourne Water Service Area will remain through the weekend

A boil water advisory remains in effect through the weekend for the Eastbourne Water Service on Keats Island.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) expects to provide another update Monday, Oct. 19.

Residents are advised to boil water for at least one minute before drinking it or using it to prepare food. The precaution applies even to water in holding tanks filled before the advisory was issued Oct. 9.

“Additional chlorination has been carried out to address the elevated bacteria levels in the water system. Recent test results indicate that bacteria levels have decreased,” reads an update from the SCRD. “However, residents are advised to continue to boil their water until Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) officially lifts the advisory.”

SCRD staff are continuing to investigate the cause of the elevated bacteria levels.
