Sechelt CAO of nine years set to retire

Sechelt’s new council will be tasked with hiring a chief administrative officer.

Andrew Yeates is set to retire at the end of October after nine years as CAO for the District of Sechelt and 26 years as a CAO in multiple B.C. municipalities.

“Serving the District of Sechelt over the past nine years has been one of the greatest privileges of my professional career,” said Yeates. “During this time, I have had the opportunity to work alongside dedicated elected officials, talented staff, other government partners, all of whom share a commitment to making Sechelt a vibrant and resilient community. As I prepare for this transition, I do so with immense gratitude. I am thankful for the trust placed in me by successive councils, for the support of colleagues and for the many friendships and professional relationships that have developed throughout my time with the District.”

The District of Sechelt credits Yeates’ leadership with overhauling the district’s organizational culture and making it a place where people are proud to work.

“His leadership is measured not only by results, but by the relationships and two-way respect he has built with staff and multiple councils,” the district said in a news release. “On behalf of all staff, we wish Andrew and his family happiness, good health and adventure in the years ahead.”

Until a new CAO is hired, current directors will rotate through the role of acting CAO.
