Online map shows of Snuneymuxw art in and around Nanaimo

A new self-guided virtual tour will help people discover Indigenous artwork in and around Nanaimo.

The ‘imush tu hulitum (Walk of Life) Public Art Tour is a partnership between the City of Nanaimo and Snuneymuxw First Nation that shares stories behind local artists and their work.

“From an Ancestral lens, art holds important knowledge and reminds us of our connection and responsibilities to the natural world. We extend our gratitude to our Snuneymuxw artists who generously share their gifts with the community,” said Snuneymuxw Chief Mike Wyse.

The online map can be used on a mobile device, allowing people to view the artwork online or visit the pieces in person.

“Visitors can use their mobile device to engage with artworks while travelling between locations or experience the collection virtually from anywhere. This flexible format makes the tour accessible to a wide range of audiences,” the city said.
