Car trunk sale this weekend aims to give old items new life

An event in Nanaimo this weekend aims to help reduce waste and put some cash in residents’ pockets.

The City of Nanaimo’s Car Trunk Sale will be held Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Vancouver Island University lower parking lot.

The city says more than 200 vendors will be selling used items from the trunks of their cars.

Taaj Daliran, the city’s manager of sanitation, recycling and cemeteries, said the event gives used items a second life while helping keep waste out of the landfill.

“The Nanaimo Recycles Car Trunk Sales are a fun and practical way for residents to reduce waste and give gently used items a second life. By supporting reuse and keeping items out of the landfill, we’re helping build a more sustainable and connected community — one trunk at a time,” said Daliran.
