The District of Sechelt has secured $500,000 to help plan for the future of its infrastructure.
The funding comes through the Union of B.C. Municipalities’ Strategic Priorities Fund and will support the district’s asset management program.
The district said the grant will help create a plan that examines the condition, cost, risks and replacement timelines for infrastructure, including roads, sidewalks, wastewater systems, parks, buildings, vehicles and streetlights.
“Asset management is knowing what infrastructure we own, its condition, and planning ahead so we can repair and replace over its lifecycle and ultimately, sustainably fund the service,” said Meghan Lee, director of engineering and operations.
The district said the plan will help guide future budgets and ensure community services remain sustainable.
Work is expected to begin in 2027.
The grant is part of 54 projects announced through the Strategic Priorities Fund by the federal and provincial governments and the Union of B.C. Municipalities.
