Serious crime unit takes charge of investigation into sunken fishing charter near Richmond

RCMP say search efforts are ongoing for a commercial fishing charter that sunk near Richmond earlier this week.

The Richmond RCMP Serious Crimes Unit has taken charge of the ongoing investigation and an underwater recovery team is using sonar to try to locate the boat.

A news release from RCMP notes conditions on the water have made the search challenging.

“This is not a quick process. Even if the vessel is found today, it could take additional days to safely investigate, document and potentially recover it,” says corporal Frank Bryson, Richmond RCMP media relations officer. “We know many people are awaiting updates and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as the search continues.”
