VIU launches updated technology diploma with AI focus

Vancouver Island University has revamped its web development diploma into a program focused on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and business skills.

After a year-long pause, the university is launching its updated Business Information Technology Systems diploma.

“The IT field has changed,” said Brandon Britt, program chair. “These skills are part of everyday work in technology, so we built them into the program from the start. We connected with employers to find out what graduates need to be job ready.”

VIU said the two-year program is designed to better reflect the modern technology sector and will combine technical training with hands-on projects.

“Employers are looking for people who can connect ideas to solutions,” Britt said. “We want graduates who can understand a problem, design a solution and deliver it in a real-world setting.”
