Stage 2 outdoor water restrictions take effect May 1 for most water service areas served by the Regional District of Nanaimo.

Under the restrictions, lawn sprinkling is limited to two hours per day, either between 7 and 10 a.m. or 7 and 10 p.m. Even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered calendar days, while odd-numbered addresses may water on odd-numbered days.

Vegetable gardens and drip irrigation systems are exempt.

The DeCourcy and Surfside water service areas will remain under stricter Stage 4 restrictions until further notice.

The Regional District of Nanaimo said early conservation is needed due to dry conditions and below-average snowpack on Vancouver Island.
