RDN looks for volunteers for advisory committees

The Regional District of Nanaimo is looking for volunteers to sit on advisory committees. Applications are open until October 31 and the RDN says it is looking for people with experience or interest in parks, recreation, culture, agriculture, waste management, planning, climate or drinking water and watershed protection.

“Volunteer knowledge and perspectives are a valuable part of the advisory committees that work on a broad range of items that impact our region and its residents,” the RDN says. “Committee members provide a focal point for co-operation between community interests and the RDN on local governance matters, advise on a wide range of projects and work with community and neighbourhood groups.”

The regional district is accepting applications for the following committees and boards:

  • Electoral Area A Parks, Recreation, and Culture Committee
  • Parks and Open Space Advisory Committees (Electoral Areas B, C, E, F, G and H)
  • Agricultural Advisory Committee
  • Board of Variance
  • Climate Action Technical Advisory Committee
  • Drinking Water & Watershed Protection Technical Advisory Committee
  • Liquid Waste Management Plan Monitoring Committee
  • Solid Waste Management Plan Monitoring Advisory Committee

The RDN says applicants must demonstrate interest and expertise where required and be able to commit the necessary time.

The RDN board will begin appointing people to the committees and boards on January 1. The appointments vary from one to three-year terms.

More about specific boards and an application form can be found on the RDN’s website.
