Hiker airlifted from Mount Benson

A hiker was lifted off Mount Benson in Nanaimo this weekend.

According to a social media post from North Shore Rescue, the Vancouver-based team provided aid to Nanaimo Search and Rescue late in the afternoon on Sept. 13.

“By the time we arrived on scene, NSAR had done an excellent job accessing, treating and packaging the subject. Rescue techs were inserted into the scene, packaged the subject into our ARP (flying stretcher) and were hoisted back into the helicopter,” the post says.

The team flew the patient to a temporary landing zone to be transferred to BC Emergency Health Services crews.

“A big thanks as always to Nanaimo SAR and BCEHS paramedics for the usual excellent interagency coordination,” the post says.
