Candidates in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith riding have been out canvassing for close to a week since the writ dropped which means campaign headquarters for each party have started to hold open houses to welcome volunteers.
NDP incumbent Lisa Marie Barron says she is ready to hit the streets with her volunteers as election day nears, and this riding is going to play a big part in shaping the political landscape on Vancouver Island.
“The team is up and running, we have everything to go to run a strong election,” Barron says. “We know it’s going to be between the NDP and the Conservatives.”
According to polling on 338Canada.com, the riding is indicating a conservative win, but Barron says the message she’s getting in the community is completely different and the only poll that counts is the one on election day.
“What I’m looking at is how people actually vote on election day, and how people vote in early voting,” she says. “When I’m out in the community I’m talking to people, and they’re worried about their future and the tariffs.
“When I’m knocking on the door there’s a lot of support, but there’s no doubt it’s going to be a tight race.”
Barron is one of five candidates who are looking to represent the riding during the election, with Tamara Kronis for the Conservative Party of Canada, Stephen Welton for the People’s Party of Canada, Michelle Corfield for the Liberal Party, and Paul Manly for the Green Party.
