The RCMP are looking for additional information about a head-on collision just outside of Parksville Monday afternoon that caused serious injuries and closed Highway 19 northbound for a few hours.
The collision happened near the Church Road overpass shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3, after a Chevrolet pickup truck crossed the median from the southbound lane striking a Toyota Prius in one of the northbound lanes.
Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol said they are looking for dashcam footage in the minutes leading up to the crash.
“Both vehicles were destroyed in the crash. Miraculously, the driver and small child in the Prius appear to have non-life-threatening injuries.”
Mclaughlin added the child’s life was saved because of a proper car seat in the backseat of the vehicle.
The driver of the truck, a Nanaimo man, and the occupants of the Prius, who were from Nanoose Bay, were all taken to hospital.
Anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage is asked to contact BC Highway Patrol Parksville at 250-954-2953.
