Intensive care home coming to Parksville to support people with brain injuries

A new condo-style supportive-living home is coming to Parksville to help people suffering from brain injuries.

A 16-bed request-for-proposals process led to Connect Communities being awarded the contract via Island Health, a company which specializes in providing services for people living with brain injuries.

Minister of Health Josie Osborne said the new supportive-living home will provide the care patients need, closer to their loved ones.

“Receiving care as close to home as possible makes a huge difference for people recovering from injuries, especially as serious as a brain injury.”

Connect Parksville will be a 28-bed facility with the remaining beds available to non-Island Health clients.

The facility includes eight short-term bedrooms for individuals transitioning to independent living and eight long-term bedrooms for people requiring ongoing care and will serve clients from central and north Vancouver Island.

Parksville council approved rezoning of 365 Moilliet St. In October 2024 to allow the site to operate.

CEO of Connect Patti Flaherty said they’re thrilled to partner with Island Health and expand their life redesign model across Vancouver Island.

“Our Parksville location will provide a safe, nurturing environment, empowering the people we support to redesign their lives and thrive.”

The brain injury program will offer a range of therapies including occupational, physio, speech-language and recreational programs, as well as social work and psychology services.

Construction began in January and is expected to be completed by March next year.
