Recipients of this year’s Culture Awards in Nanaimo will be recognized by the city with a full ceremony at the Port Theatre next week.
Four awards will be presented during the free community event on Apr. 16 for outstanding groups or individuals in the arts and culture fields, and by providing a sense of awareness and pride in the community.
According to the city, award recipients this year were chosen by a panel including city staff, leaders in the art and culture sector and former award recipients.
This year’s recipients include Joel Prevost (Excellence in Culture 2025), Doug Roszmann (Honour in Culture 2025), Tsatassaya White (Honour in Culture 2025), and Sophia Maher (Honour in Heritage 2025).
Mayor Leonard Krog says this year’s award winners have demonstrated a continued tradition which has been carried over each year and prove to lead the way to the future.
“The passion and dedication of these extraordinary individuals is an inspiration to us all,” he says. “They highlight the talent of our arts and culture community.”
According to the city, the culture awards align with the goals to strengthen the creative sector in the city by investing in organizations and people who animate our cultural spaces.
