Nanaimo transit services not affected by strike, says RDN

Transit services in Nanaimo will not be affected by the strike which has hit the Cowichan Valley and the RDN adds all services will run as scheduled.

The strike started on Feb. 8 between Unifor Locals 114 and 333 and Transdev Canada as they try to agree on wages, pensions, and working conditions.

According to the RDN, all routes are going to run, including the 70 Nanaimo Cowichan Express (NCX), but service beyond that will be impossible.

“While the NCX is not impacted, customers using the NCX to reach the Cowichan Valley are advised there will be no local fixed route service beyond the NCX drop-off locations, and no ability to travel to and from Victoria,” they say.

They add the hardest hit service routes will be along routes to Victoria and the surrounding area, and riders should make alternate arrangements once they get to Cowichan Valley stops.

“Service will also be suspended for the Route 66 Cowichan-Victoria Express (CVX), and Route 99 Shawnigan Lake-Victoria Express which provide interregional service between the Cowichan Valley and Victoria,” they say.

Check the BC Transit website to find out if your route is affected and visit the RDN’s website for the latest regional updates.
