A YouTube influencer is looking at a hefty fine and a seven-day impoundment thanks to driving with high speed.
An unmarked BC Highway Patrol officer was working off Highway #19 in Lantzville on February 2 when they heard an excessively loud vehicle accelerate away from the stoplight near Ware Road.
The loud exhaust allowed the officer to get his laser ready and capture a yellow Nissan G-T-R going 150 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.
Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with the BC Highway Patrol said the car was equipped with a radar detector but it stayed silent.
“The driver did not realize that in the hands of a skilled police officer, a laser reader will not be picked up by a detector until it’s too late.”
The car was heavily modified according to RCMP and upon being pulled over the driver identified themselves as a YouTube influencer.
The driver was issued an excessive speeding ticket of $368, and the ticket automatically came with a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The driver was in the vehicle with a passenger, and both were polite during the stop, accepting an offer from the officer to be dropped off at the nearby Tim Hortons while they awaited a ride to be picked up as their vehicle was towed away.
