BC Ferries offers $5 child fares for Family Day trips

Booking a trip for Family Day weekend looks to be cheaper through new child fares.

That’s from BC Ferries, announcing that they’re offering $5 child fares for pre-booked reservations on the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, Tsawwassen to Duke Point, Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay, and Horseshoe Bay to Gibsons to Langdale routes.

The goal of the fares is to make travel more affordable for families planning to take a trip during the Family Day long weekend.

Vice President of Customer Experience Melanie Lucia says the fare is one way to make it easier for families to connect.

“With the 60-year-old Queen of New Westminster still out of service and the challenges of managing an aging fleet, we’re doing everything we can to support smooth and affordable travel over the upcoming holiday weekend,” said Lucia.

“At the same time, we’re focused on the long-term improvements that come with fleet renewal.”

They expect the Queen of New Westminster to return to service in March.

The ferry-line says the fare applies to those with children ages 5 to 11 and can also apply to bookings all the way till February 19.

The fare is in effect as of today.
