RCMP investigate a series of cars vandalized in Nanaimo

Nanaimo RCMP says a wave of destruction is being investigated after several vehicles have been vandalized across the city.

The destruction took place from Dec. 10 to Dec. 11 with several vehicles having smashed windows, flattened tires, and side mirrors being broken.

Police say these incidents are just a few more they can add to a growing list of vandalism.

“Forty-two incidents have been reported of either a window being broken, tires flattening by air being let out and/or side mirrors being busted,” police say. “All vehicles targeted were either parked on the street or in parkades or parking lots.”

According to police, roughly nine vehicles were damaged on Harewood Road, three at Vancouver Island University, as well as several incidents occurring in the 6900 block of Island Highway north, 6600 block of Mary Ellen Drive, Garner Crescent, 400 block of Pine Street, the 650 block of Terminal Avenue, and the 3800 block and 2500 block of Jingle Pot Road.

Reserve constable Gary O’Brien says the incidents not only cause damage to vehicles, but they also have a lasting impact on the victims.

“This is very disturbing, and has caused an immense disruption,” he says. “It also has significant financial loss to many vehicle owners.”

If anyone has any information, or dash camera footage, they’re asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
