Nanaimo RD adds name to list calling for review of UBCM

The Nanaimo Regional District is joining a growing number list of municipalities calling for their provincial advocacy organization to be reviewed.

The Union of BC Municipalities represents local governments in BC. However, some members feel it’s not fairly balancing the views of urban and rural communities, including the Fraser Valley Regional District, which asked the Nanaimo district to join their call.

Nanaimo director Ben Geselbracht is on the UBCM board as representative for Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities, he said at the regional district’s November 26 meeting that the board does feel there is inequity and that some changes need to be made.

The district agreed to write its own letter to the union calling for a review.
