The Sunshine Coast Regional District says they’ve activated their Emergency Response Centre (EOC) after a serious windstorm.
According to the district, highways were closed along with several roads due to downed trees, and powerlines which caused Sechelt fire and several other emergency services to be deployed to provide support.
They say activating the system allows for other services to be called in to provide support to help restore the infrastructure.
“The EOC has been activated so that emergency staff are in a position to provide support to partner agencies, such as BC Hydro and local fire department,” the district says.
Residents who are looking for updates on highways, hydro, weather and BC Transit should click on the associated links and report any downed power lines to 911.
The district is reminding everyone to stay at least 10 metres away from downed lines, and don’t touch or drive over them.
Further information on the emergency will become available as the district releases it.
