Sunshine Coast MP Weiler says Frank Discussions Took Place in Nanaimo

The MP for the Sunshine Coast says there were some ‘very frank conversations’ about what MPs want to see during the Liberal party’s caucus retreat this week in Nanaimo.

Patrick Weiler says the meeting gave MPs a chance to talk about the priorities they are hearing from constituents.

He says people on the Sunshine Coast want more affordable housing, lower grocery prices, and support for people at a time when many are struggling with the high cost of living.

Weiler says other important matters for Sunshine Coast residents include upgrading infrastructure for water supply and improving transportation links to Vancouver.

The MP for West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country says we’re coming out of a very challenging time of high interest rates and inflation, but they are coming down now and the things discussed this week in Nanaimo include jobs, support for the middle class, and building housing.

Weiler is pleased to see Mark Carney joining the team to help “build the kind of economy that we need to see today, but also that we’re going to be prepared for the green transition that we are going through, and the digital transition that’s happening as well in the world.”

He says the Nanaimo retreat was an important opportunity for members of the Liberal caucus to get together and work a plan for the autumn session of parliament to deliver for Canadians today and in the future.

Weiler says some of the big priorities for him include expanding the dental care program, ensuring more competition in our economy to lower prices, and making sure that communities have the infrastructure they need.
