Residents in parts of Nanaimo woke to a strange smell lingering this morning.
Numerous complaints were filed to Nanaimo Fire and Rescue and Fortis BC about a natural gas smell in North and Central Nanaimo.
A post on X by Nanaimo Fire Rescue said they are aware of the smell and is a result of work happening in Nanoose Bay.
“We are aware of the smell of natural gas in our region. We have been informed that Fortis BC is conducting some venting in the Nanoose Bay Area.”
Nanaimo Fire and Rescue is working with Fortis BC to figure out when the smell will dissipate.
Nanoose Bay, Woodgrove, Hammond Bay, and Brannen Lake were some of the areas where the odour was noticeable.
Fortis BC also put a post out on X saying they apologize for the inconvenience and will provide updates for residents when they become available.
