Improved Cellphone Service May be Coming to Hammond Bay Area

The Regional District of Nanaimo has reached an agreement with TELUS and Rogers Communications for the use of land to erect a new a cellular tower at the Greater Nanaimo Pollution Control Centre.

If it proceeds, regional district Chair, Vanessa Craig, says it would bring reliable cellphone service to the Hammond Bay area.

The RDN says the installation and operation of the tower would have no tax implications for residents because the cost of construction, operation and maintenance of the tower would be borne by TELUS and Rogers.

The regional district says the public consultation process is expected to begin in the autumn and will culminate with a request for land use concurrence from Nanaimo Council.
